Feb 19, 2022

Lesson 9: Analogous Colors

Analogous Colors are groups of three colors next to each other on the color wheel.

Example analogous colors are

Yellow, yellow-orange, orange

Blue, blue purple, purple

Green, Yellow-green, Yellow

Artists use analogous color schemes to create a nice rich look.

Activities:

1. Abstract Shapes - pick three colors next to each other on the color wheel. Pick three shapes. Assign one color to each shape. Fill a large piece of paper with different sizes of each shape. Use the matching color to fill shapes. If you have overlapping shapes overlap the color as well.

2. Letter Line Art – Draw a bubble letter in the middle of a sheet of paper. Using lines divide the letter in to shapes. On the outside of the letter do the same thing. Pick one set of analogous colors and color shapes on inside of letter. Pick a different set (opposite maybe) and color shapes on the outside of letter. For video instructions watch my YouTube lesson.
